History
Sage Tech was formed in 1981 as an independent company focused solely on providing services within the entertainment production industry. This included lighting and audio equipment along with the professional skills of engineering and design. Later services also included pyrotechnics and other effects as the production requirements deemed necessary. Its founder, Tim Sage, pushed the boundaries to better understand the demand that producers and technical directors placed on production personnel so as to meet their objectives. This caused a broader realization as to the importance of doing a job well so that deadlines could be met accordingly and a “lead by example” work ethic would be established. He believed that training in all departments of production had to be ongoing in order to stay on top of the ever-changing technology.
Fueled by his desire to be and take part in productions meant that whether in theater, trade shows, concerts and/or corporate events he could be found at the center of it all. As an independent owner, he was able to brand the name “Sage Tech” which to people in the industry, both in and out of state, meant dependable and reliable. A phrase “You are only as good as your last show” has been the company’s motto.
Although the years have passed, the ambition to press on and lead by example has not faltered. Throughout the success of the company the one thing that continues to motivate is the need to learn. Sage Tech has now taken on a new approach and that is to share the knowledge of the industry with all students who wish to become technicians, designers and leaders in the world of entertainment production. This means that having a positive work ethic on the job, working smarter, more efficiently and safely will provide a better future for the student and a greater understanding of what is expected within the industry.
To broaden the field of teaching, also through his years of experience working with Production Resource Group in both Los Angeles and Las Vegas, David Sage officially joined in 2019 and plays an integral role in the development of the online education through podcasts and webinars.
